2024 All-Region | Division I Volleyball
ICCAC Division I Volleyball All-Region has been announced after Indian Hills and Iowa Western traded blows during the 2024 season. It was the Warriors that ultimately prevailed to capture the Region 11 Title and go on to win Districts. Iowa Western finished the season with a 20-15 record and the Warriors will play at the National Tournament with a current record of 25-9.
Four Warriors were named to the All-Region teams led by outside hitter and the 2024 ICCAC Player of the Year, Sara Van Gisteren. The sophomore, with matches left to play, is No. 2 in the NJCAA in kills this season with 609and No. 2 in kills per set with 4.54. Her hitting percentage on the season is. .320 and she has the most points in the NJCAA with 705.5 at 5.3 per set.
Van Gisteren had 12 matches with 20 or more kills including a season high 31 against Iowa Western on Oct. 17. She recorded double digit kills in all matches except two, both back in August.
Also helping lead the Warriors is Ana Westerich, Daniela De Los Santos, and Sabrina Noguiera Da Silva.
Westerich has made a name for herself while being the setter, she is currently No. 1 in the nation with 1333 assists so far on the season. She and Van Gisteren have made a formidable combination offensively. She is also top 50 in hitting percentage at .405.
De Los Santos stepped up big on defense with 56 solo blocks for the season, No. 8 in the nation. She has 138 total blocks which is also top 10.
Da Silva is the Warriors top defensive specialist --- she is No. 7 in the NJCAA in digs, with 618 and ranks No. 15 for digs pet set with 4.61.
Iowa Western had three players make this year's All-Region list after wrapping up their season in the Midwest-A District Semifinal. The Reivers gave the nod to Marian Vega, Ella Kousmanen, and Carol Herrero.
Herrero, who was named All-Region last year as well, had another great season with 407 kills and 3.48 kills per set, she is No. 14 in both categories in the NJCAA. Herrero, the sophomore from Brazil, is also No. 24 in the nation with 441.5 points.
Kousman made a strong impact on defense for the Reivers leading the Reivers in total blocks for the season with 102, 12 solo blocks and 80 block assists.
Vega, a freshman from Colombia, was outstanding in the middle with 85 total blocks on the season. She added 243 kills as well, hitting .323 on the year.
Lyndsey Michel of Indian Hills was named ICCAC Division I Coach of the Year. Michel has been with the Warriors for 12 seasons, leading them to three NJCAA tournament appearances in the past five years. She picked up her 400th career victory this season in the Midwest B District Championship match. Indian Hills is the No. 14 seed at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament coming up Nov. 20-23.
